Announcements
Elim Says Thanks! To Betty Needleman for baking the cake for August's Young at Heart meeting.  To Tammy Calloway for washing the fellowship hall tablecloths and napkins, and to Troop 54 for putting them back on the tables.  To everyone who either donated baked goods or bought them last Sunday, thus netting the troop $285 to put toward next summer's Boy Scout Camp.  To Tammy again for her hard work in coordinating the bake sale, and to Celene Calloway and Kathryn Nygaard for helping her.  To Elim's Stephen Ministers--Louise Cole, Dave Erickson, Nancy Nelson, and Tom Robertson-- who along with Pastor DanaLee planned and carried out last week's moving and very well attended healing service.

Faith Hike--Pastor DanaLee leads another faith hike after worship September 19, this one up Taylor Canyon alongside cascading water. Carpool from church, or meet at the trailhead. Let Pastor DanaLee know to expect you, and bring along, as always, a lunch to eat on the trail, a hat, sunscreen, water, and whatever else you might want to have with you.

Bishop's Online Forum--That same afternoon the ELCA's Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson will conduct an online town hall forum at 3 p.m. local time. It will be possible to log in and ask him questions. Elim plans a gathering at the church--exact spot not yet decided--so that those interested can watch together. This way, anyone who doesn't feel tech-savvy won't have to fret about figuring out how to get in on the event.

Confirmation Class--Classes begin Monday, September 20, at 6 p.m. Pastor DanaLee will teach the class again this year, with a focus on Luther's Small Catechism. If you would like your child who's in seventh grade or older to be part of this class, please let Pastor DanaLee know so she can get the information you need to you.

Young at Heart--To accommodate more participants, this group will try a new meeting day and time for September. You're invited if you're 50 or over, or come as the guest of someone who is. Bring your brown bag lunch at 12:30 on Wednesday, September 29, and while you munch, watch the ELCA Mosaic video Katy Luther, Shining Star of Wittenburg. Mickie Porm has offered to bring a cake for dessert.

Reader's Theatre--Weber State University presents Howard Zinn's The People Speak September 16 at 10:30 a.m. It's in the Lair of the Union Building, there's no charge, and the public is invited. Our own president Dave Thomas will be one of the readers.

Homes for Retired Hymnals?--Elim is clearing out its old hymnals, and you're free to take any you want. You may especially like to have one if it was given in honor of someone you care about. (We hope to publish a list of dedications in the next SCRIBE.) Check with Mike Morgan, Jordan Nygaard, or Dwight Rude if interested.

Want To Be an Acolyte?--If you're at least nine years old and not yet out of high school, then you're eligible. Jessica Brattland, Elim's acolyte coordinator, who learned by doing the job herself, will teach you what you need to know. Talk with her if acolyting sounds like fun.

ALPHA Classes--Ogden's Community United Methodist Church is about to start a free ten-week ALPHA course and invites members of the Elim community to attend. The class is for everyone but is designed especially for new Christians, couples preparing for marriage, and Christians who want a refresher in the basics. Free childcare is available. Orientation is Wednesday night, September 8, so if you're interested, you'll want to call Claudette Rothwell right away at 801-479-7430 or check claudette.rothwell@community-umc.net.

Need a New Bible?--If you've just about worn out your current one or you'd like one with more aids, then you may want to get in on the order Elim will soon send in for the Lutheran Study Bible. Jordan Nygaard is assembling the orders, so see him if you'd like more details on exactly what choices are available.

125 and Counting!  In three years Elim will celebrate a big birthday, which will need a big party to match. Let President Dave Thomas know if you'd like to serve on the 125th Anniversary Planning Commission.
